Buddhists stole my clarinet... and I'm still as mad as Hell about it! How did a small-town boy from the Midwest come to such an end? And what's he doing in Rhode Island by way of Chicago, Pittsburgh, and New York? Well, first of all, it's not the end YET! Come back regularly to find out. (Plant your "flag" at the bottom of the page, and leave a comment. Claim a piece of Rhode Island!) My final epitaph? "I've calmed down now."

Greetings From Pennsylvania? No... Greetings from the Department of Defense!

No titles here. But, interestingly... after Greetings made the last post about invasion of e-mail privacy, quoting no other than Martin Luther... did Greetings receive their own greetings.. in the form of attempted computer access from the Department of Defense Network Information Center.

We added a new version of McAfee's firewall, which lets us trace attempted unsolicited port connections to our computer. While, as we expected, most came from the lawless frontiers of China and Russia, many came from our own Department of Defense at nic.mil .

Now wait.. before you make the mistake of going there, or any .mil site, let us forewarn you: Going to those sites immediately states that (1) you have thereby agreed to being monitored and that (2) they are for the protection of the President, Vice President, and Secretary of Defense of the United States.

No... not the United States government; not the Congress or the Senate; and definitely not for the protection of the American people. Just the protection of three folks named Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld.

And pretty soon after signing on to that web site to see just who was attempting to access our computer, we got a nice followup from some cool guy named "Iceman" at Robbins Air Force Base in Georgia. His real name we'll leave out for now, but we'll continue to think of him as the icy cool "Iceman", thinking he's in the movie Top Gun (only about 20 years old now) and looking at our computer for the safety of Larry, Moe, and Curly. Thanks, Iceman. I'll sleep a lot safer at night, now.
