Ed Schultz for Senate
North Dakota Senator Byron Dorgan's decision to retire was terrible news. Dorgan always stood with working families, and led the fight against Wall Street deregulation that caused the crash of 2008 and the current Great Recession.
Dorgan will be difficult to replace, but there's one outstanding candidate who can do it: Ed Schultz, host of The Ed Show on MSNBC*.
Ed Schultz has made his career fighting for average Americans. He adamantly refuses to cater to the Washington Elite - either Republicans or Democrats. He simply fights for what's right, and does it with passion.
For the past year, Ed Schultz led the fight for real healthcare reform: Medicare for All, or at least a robust public option. Night after night, he pushed Democratic leaders in Congress to deliver real reform.
Because of corporate sellouts like Joe Lieberman and Ben Nelson, Ed Schultz could not win this fight from outside the Senate. But with Ed Schultz on the inside, the American people would have a fighting chance.
The American people need Ed Schultz in the Senate. Ed, we urge you to run!
* Note: Ed's immediate reaction on TV was to say North Dakota has a 5-year residency rule, which he couldn't meet because he now lives in NY. But that rule only applies to state offices like Governor - not Federal offices, which are governed by the U.S. Constitution. As the official North Dakota rules make clear, Ed would simply have to become an "inhabitant" of North Dakota - just as Hillary Clinton had to become an "inhabitant" of New York when she ran in 2000 (while her husband still lived in the White House).
